This is one of the most popular kitchen cabinet hardware styles of the past 10 years. You will see these as often on classic cabinets as on modern flat-panel ones. They most often make the biggest statement when they’re run as long as possible on the door or drawer. This style has end caps that are flush, so that you don’t have little bits that stick out and catch the pocket of your pants. Anyone who has ripped a pocket while walking briskly through a kitchen knows what I mean.
This goes beyond the scope of your project, and cuts more to the picture in your mind of how the installed cabinets should look and operate. You do not need to have all the answers, but you should at least conceptualize what your finished picture might look like. Be prepared for this vision to morph a bit as you get into the design phase, but take the time to form a picture in your mind.
Create more seating. Whether your space lacks a proper dining table or you’re looking to create a more casual bar-seating option, adding low-profile seating to the island is an easy way to increase functionality and make the environment more social for both guests and the cook. Create a breakfast bar or dining table, and leave a counter overhang that offers enough room to tuck the chairs or stools underneath when not in use.
The bold shade is a custom paint color. The double cabinet of pantry storage has a glass-fronted cabinet with glass shelves on one side. “It’s painted inside and lit,” Graver says. “The owners wanted somewhere to store glasses and to have some display space too.”
