An unspoken rule of thumb in interiors is to never use blue in rooms such as kitchens or dining rooms where food is being presented. The idea is that blue tones are unnatural and make food look unappetizing. I’m not sure how true that is, but I do know that rules are meant to be broken and blue kitchens are looking cool and current for me.
Glass backsplashes are quickly becoming more popular in kitchen design for a number of reasons: they’re inexpensive, modern, low maintenance and easy to customize. Glass offers a seamless, uninterrupted surface that has the added bonus of reflecting light, which helps to brighten up the room.
One-Side Seating. An island with seating on just one side is a common arrangement for a reason, and it can work well for some situations. However, if you’re looking to use the island as a frequent spot for family meals, it’s usually not ideal. Placing all seats on one side means everyone who is seated will be facing forward in a line, which doesn’t facilitate conversation.
You’ll feel good about your selection and add personality and richness from the wood’s history. I look for wood that has a story — maybe it’s salvaged from some iconographic building or even from the project’s remodel. Just remember, wood is more susceptible to damage by water and heat, so it’s best located away from the sink, dishwasher and range. An island is a good option.
