Add more counter space. Keep it simple while adding value by using an island to significantly increase the amount of counter space in your kitchen. Having more counter space adds obvious benefits: more room for meal prep, multiple chefs and can serve as an eating area. Create contrast by using a different material or color for the island counters than you did in the rest of the room. If your regular countertops are white quartz, try black or a dark stained wood for the island.
Color and pattern mixed. Why stop with color or pattern when you can have both? This creative kitchen mixes it up with a warm pink hue applied behind half of the upper cabinets and the upper part of the wall, and a bold wallpaper design behind the bottom half of the upper cabinets.
Paperstone, one of several recycled paper countertop materials, is FSC certified and made of 100 percent postconsumer recycled paper, petroleum-free resin and pigment. It has a handsome monolithic appearance, and its feel is often compared to a warm, soft stone, like soapstone. The material is only heat resistant to 350 degrees, so you should exercise care with your hottest pans.
Open shelves: We built and installed our own open shelves, as I mentioned. This was cost-effective because the bill included only the cost of the wood, stain and urethane finish. If the DIY approach isn’t for you, in your area who can help you with shelves or any other type of kitchen cabinetry project.
