Distressed turquoise. The renovation on this historic Massachusetts farmhouse included a large dream kitchen for the restaurant-owning homeowners. A pleasing turquoise with a distressed finish works beautifully against the exposed brick wall. And we’ll give them bonus points for all the wonderful colors of the ingredients in the Mason jars.
When it came to creating the room’s look, the owners began by selecting a large professional range. Graver then worked with them to design a kitchen around the range that’s modern and a bit surprising.
Bright color behind open shelves. Anyone can do this — just remove the doors from your upper cabinets and paint the backs a bright hue. Match the wall color, as shown here, for a seamless look.
Chalked-up concrete. Take sidewalk chalk to the kitchen with a writable cement backsplash, and have fun creating a rotating display of sketches, doodles and lists. A concrete floor can be treated the same way, depending on the finish used — so you can let the kiddos draw on the floor!
